With the introduction of hydraulic tile production in Havana in 1886, Cuba became the second country - after Mexico - to launch this technology in the Americas. The construction boom in the early part of the 20th century set the stage for the tiles' popularity throughout the next 50 years. Although initially resembling those made in Barcelona, the tiles quickly developed a style of their own and evolved into more colorful designs with more complex and ornamental floral motifs. The enclosed CD-ROM contains all of the designs illustrated in the book.
